|
A short vowel in a closed syllable becomes a long vowel if a silent E is added at the end of the word. Examples: tap - tape, pet - Pete, not - note, sit - site, cub - cube, gym - thyme. Read these examples in sentences: 1. We listened to telephone taps on a tape recorder. 2. Nan gave a new pet to Pete. 3. I did not write this note. 4. Do not sit at the construction site. 5. I found a cub in a cube. 6. We found some thyme behind the gym.
